Old couples

Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.

This morning I went to the 8 am mass at Holy Spirit by myself.  We always go to 9:15 as a family but were splitting up today to accomplish some tasks.  I was 15 minutes early so of course I was sitting in my car finishing my coffee scrolling through facebook when I happened to look up and witness such a touching site.  We all know the usual people early for 8 am mass tend to be in the "blue hair" age range as my dad would say.  Yes this is a stereotype but very true.  What struck me was the way the couples were all holding hands or touching in some way.  I don't believe it was out of necessity although many had canes and moved slowly, but more out of love and tradition.  It almost moved me to tears... I don't know any of these older couples and certainly don't know their stories but from what I could see, this is the purest vision of true love and a life well lived.  Of course they were all dressed up, the men in suit coats and the ladies with dresses or skirts.  Most ladies had on the funny see through rain hats that I have no idea where they buy even though it had not started raining yet for the day.  It made me sad to see this as almost an end to an era...
It also gave me a new dream I didn't know I even wanted... of course I love my husband and promise to till the end of our days but I want to be old and gray someday and still want to hold his hand when we walk.  Even now our kiddos giggle when we hug or kiss and it just makes me realize we need to do it more often for the world to see.  I want my children to see that love is good and all around them.

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
